Christchurch earthquake

I'm a bit late off the mark on this one but I want to assure all followers of this blog that Rory and I are fine. We didn't even feel the massive quake that has devasted Christchurch in the South Island. While this quake measured less on the Richter scale than the Sept 9 shake, it was closer to the surface and there was a lot more horizontal movement.

A national state of emergency has been declared. The fatality rate stands at 75 but people are still being pulled from detroyed buildings.

All our Chch friends are fine and one is even flying out asap to stay with us for a while.

Scarey time but it's amazing how the entire country can pull together at a time like this.

  1. I was wondering about you guys but I thought you were up North of Christchurch. I'm glad your ok too. The video of the damage doesn't look good. Yeah it's a shame that a thing like this has to bring us together. Take care!

  2. Was wondering about you guys. I have long lost relatives in Mosgiel. I'm assuming Mosgiel didn't feel it even.

    Stay safe guys!

  3. i, too, was hoping you're okay. i have two friends touring NZ now, and i haven't heard from them yet. Their itinerary had them in Christchurch the day before the quake, and they're supposed to be at Te Anu now. But i have no idea if transportation has been interrupted. i'm hoping to hear from them through common friends soon.
